FAQ
About This Work
What makes this approach to coaching different?
A lot of coaching follows a set structure or method. In contrast, my work incorporates your immediate experiences and our sessions adapt spontaneously to your unique requirements.Change happens by developing your awareness . You begin to see your thoughts, emotions, and responses differently – and from that place, new possibilities open up. It’s about discovering that what you need has been within you all along.
What happens during a coaching session?
We begin with whatever feels most present or relevant for you that day. There’s no fixed agenda – the session is shaped by you.
From there, we explore your current experience together, paying attention to your thoughts, feelings, and body responses as they come up. When a pattern becomes visible – the way you interpret a situation, or the way you typically react – we work with it directly, in the moment.
This is where real change tends to happen. Because what was always within you starts to come to light and from there, moving forward feels natural.
What is Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)?
Neuro-Linguistic Programming – NLP – is an approach to understanding how we think, communicate, and make sense of our experiences. It explores the relationship between our neurology (how our brain processes information), our language (how we describe and interpret what happens to us), and the patterns of behaviour that emerge from both.
In practical terms, NLP offers a way of becoming aware of the patterns that are quietly running your life – how you respond to situations, what you tell yourself in difficult moments, and how those responses have become habitual over time.
What makes NLP particularly powerful in a coaching context is that it works in real time – with what is actually happening in your experience as it unfolds, rather than analysing the past in the abstract. Change becomes possible not by understanding everything intellectually, but by noticing something differently in the moment.
The Association for Neuro Linguistic Programming (www.anlp.org), of which I am a member, provides industry standards to ensure quality and consistency for professionals incorporating NLP in their work.
What is the difference between NLP coaching and life coaching?
Life coaching typically focuses on helping you set and achieve goals – moving from where you are to where you want to be. NLP coaching does this too, but goes deeper into the how. It works with the patterns of thought, language, and behaviour that are shaping your experience – often without you realising – and creates change by working with those patterns directly, in real time.
In practice, the distinction matters less than the approach. What makes this work distinctive isn’t the label – it’s that every session responds to what is actually present for you, rather than following a predetermined structure.
Is online coaching as effective as in person?
In my experience, yes – and for many people, more so. Working from your own space, in your own environment, can actually make it easier to access what’s real for you. There’s no commute, no unfamiliar room to settle into, and sessions can fit around your life wherever you are in the world.
Everything I do is currently delivered online – and the people I work with would tell you the same.
Is This For Me?
Who is personal transformation coaching for?
This work suits people who are ready to look inward – whether you’re navigating a life transition, dealing with anxiety or stress, trying to break old habits, or simply wanting to feel more like yourself.
It’s particularly relevant if you’ve tried other approaches and felt something was missing, or if you sense that the answers you’re looking for are somewhere inside you, rather than in a framework applied from the outside.
There’s nothing to figure out beforehand. Curiosity is enough to begin.
How can coaching help me reconnect with myself?
Many people come to coaching feeling a little lost, stuck in familiar patterns, or unsure of who they really are beneath the busyness of everyday life. Perhaps anxiety is getting in the way, or stress has become the default, or you simply want more clarity and calm.
Coaching helps by bringing your attention to what is actually happening in your experience – your thoughts, emotions, and physical responses – as they arise. When you can see a pattern clearly, you can begin to work with it. Over time, this builds a relationship with yourself that shows up in real situations – in how you respond to a difficult conversation, how you make a decision, how you speak about yourself and what you do.
Why do I feel stuck in life?
Feeling stuck usually means that part of you wants to move forward and part of you is holding back – often for very good reasons that haven’t been acknowledged yet.
Sometimes the thing keeping you stuck is fear. Sometimes it’s a belief about what’s possible for you. Sometimes it’s that you haven’t yet got clear on what you actually want. Coaching helps you understand the specific nature of your particular stuck – because that understanding is usually what loosens it.
Can coaching help with burnout?
Burnout tends to happen when you’ve been running on empty for so long that even rest stops feeling restful. It’s often less about doing too much and more about doing too much of the wrong things – things that drain rather than replenish, that belong to someone else’s agenda rather than your own.
Coaching can help by bringing your attention to the patterns that got you there – how you make decisions, where you override your own instincts, what you keep saying yes to when part of you is saying no. From that awareness, you begin to make choices that actually reflect what matters to you.
If you’re in the depths of burnout right now, please do seek medical support alongside any coaching. Coaching works best when you have enough capacity to engage with it – and I’ll always be honest with you about that.
Can coaching help me if I have a health condition like FND?
Yes – and this is something I speak to from personal experience. I was diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder and it reshaped my life profoundly. Navigating it led me to explore my own patterns more deeply than I ever had before, and to make fundamental changes in how I lived and related to myself.
Coaching isn’t a medical intervention and works best alongside – not instead of – any medical care you may be receiving. But for many people living with FND or other health conditions, coaching can offer something medicine doesn’t: a space to understand the patterns that may be contributing to your experience, and to build a life that feels more genuinely aligned with who you are.
If you’re living with FND and wondering whether coaching might support you, I’m always happy to have an honest conversation about what might be helpful.
Practical Questions
How many coaching sessions will I need?
Some people come for a single session and leave with exactly what they need. Others find that a longer journey – like the BEACON Pathway – gives them the depth and continuity to make changes that really stick.
The best way to find out is to have a conversation. On your free discovery call we can talk about what you’re looking for and I can give you an honest sense of what might work best for you.
What is the first step toward personal change?
Noticing. That’s genuinely it.
Before anything can change, you need to be able to see what is actually happening – in your thoughts, your body, your responses. Most of us move through life on autopilot, reacting in ways that feel inevitable because we’ve never had the space to observe them.
Creating that space – even briefly – is where change begins. Everything else follows from there.
